Startup + Rise up was born in 2016 with a simple vision: to lead by example and teach growing organizations how to hire, attract and retain the talent they work so hard to find. Talent acquisition continues to play a critical role in the ability of Canadian businesses to compete in the global marketplace yet many do not have the right systems in place to be successful in this area.

Therefore, we wanted to play a role in accelerating our companies growth in this world-class tech ecosystem by providing a significant amount of support to early and mid-stage Founders and their teams by implementing the most appropriate strategies to attract talent, create seamless application and interview processes, implement the most appropriate tools and programs to enhance candidate and employee experience, and develop flawless on-boarding and retention strategies. This all in addition to connecting our companies with top talent in our community within Engineering, Product, Marketing, Design, HR/Talent and at the Executive level.

In 2016 we noticed a big problem: we have a serious shortage of tech talent to meet the booming job demands. And while there are fantastic programs in place like The Global Talent Stream, to expedite the recruitment process and hire foreign workers, there were other observations our team made.

Companies spend a significant amount of time and dollars looking for the right talent yet don’t have the knowledge or expertise in how to retain that talent. Canada ranks 4th globally for highest employee turnover. Average of 16 per cent above U.S. at 13 per cent. While talent attraction strategies are key to hire the right talent, employee retention programs and strategies are equally as important. Many organizations just don’t know where to start. The top global reasons for employees leaving are a lack of opportunity to advance (45 per cent), dissatisfaction with senior management (41 per cent) and the work environment or culture (36 per cent).
